How to use Jev Browser Control
Claude or Codex drives a real Chrome window for you. You ask in plain words; Claude plans, and Jev, TypeSafe's fast decision model, picks each click in about half a second for a fraction of a cent.

The install, then five real tasks recorded live: a Google search, research on Wikipedia, a LinkedIn reply, a YouTube transcript and a form.
The video loads from YouTube when you press play. Watch on YouTube
Set it up in three steps
You need Node.js 18 or newer and Google Chrome. Nothing to install in the browser.
- Get a key. Create an account in the dashboard, add credits from $10, and copy your key. It starts with
jbc_and is shown once. - Add Jev Browser Control to Claude Code, with your key in the command:
claude mcp add -s user -e JBC_API_KEY=jbc_…your key… jev-browser -- npx -y https://jevbrowsercontrol.com/downloads/jev-browser-control-mcp-0.4.2.tgz
Or paste your key into Claude and ask: “Install Jev Browser Control from https://jevbrowsercontrol.com. My key: jbc_…”. Claude runs the command for you.
Codex:
codex mcp add jev-browser --env JBC_API_KEY=jbc_…your key… -- npx -y https://jevbrowsercontrol.com/downloads/jev-browser-control-mcp-0.4.2.tgz
Claude Desktop and other apps: see the docs.
- Restart Claude Code or Codex and ask “Use the browser to …”. A Chrome window opens the first time. When a site needs a login, sign in there yourself once; that window keeps its own profile, so the login is still there next time.
Five things to try
These are the tasks from the video, with what Jev did and what it cost in credits.
| Ask Claude | What happens | Jev |
|---|---|---|
| Search Google for the Rijksmuseum opening hours | Jev types the search; Claude reads you the answer. | 2 actions · $0.0033 |
| Research where the name “ristretto” comes from, on Wikipedia | Jev searches Wikipedia and opens the article; Claude reads it and explains. | 2 actions · $0.0049 |
| Draft a reply to the latest post on the TypeSafe LinkedIn page. Show me before you post. | Jev opens the comment box and types the reply. Nothing is posted until you say so. | 2 actions · $0.0071 |
| Get the transcript of my YouTube video “Future of Work” and summarise it | Jev opens “Show transcript”; Claude reads the transcript and summarises it. | 3 actions · $0.0044 |
| Order a large pizza with bacon for 19:30 on the test form. Stop before you submit. | Jev fills in eight fields and stops before “Submit order”. | 8 actions · $0.0070 |
Put every value that has to be typed into your request (names, dates, the text of a reply). Jev never makes up personal details; if something is missing, it stops and Claude asks you.
Stay in control, or go fully automatic
By default, a click that buys, pays, sends, posts or deletes stops before it happens, and Claude asks you first. So does a Comment, Reply or Send button next to text you typed, because it would publish that text.
Want tasks to run end to end without asking? Add -e JBC_CONFIRM_IRREVERSIBLE=0 to the install command (or put JBC_CONFIRM_IRREVERSIBLE=0 in ~/.jev-browser-control/config.env). Claude Code also asks before each tool call until you allow the jev-browser tools in its permissions.
JBC_BLOCKED_SITES.New in version 0.4
- Hover: Claude can open menus that only appear when the mouse is over them, like a reaction picker.
- Copied links: after a “Copy link” menu item, Claude can read the link that was copied.
- Screen recordings: ask Claude to record what it does in the browser; it saves an MP4 on your computer.
- Buttons that appear late: Send and Comment buttons that switch on a moment after you type now show up for Claude straight away.
- Safer replies: a Comment or Reply button that would post your text now asks first.
Tips
- Give each task one site and one outcome. For bigger jobs, Claude chains several tasks.
- If Google shows a “robot check”, complete it yourself once in the Jev window; the window remembers it.
- Check the result. Claude reads the final page back, and it can ask Jev to confirm a statement about the page for a fraction of a cent.
- On YouTube, transcripts of videos that have chapters may not load when the Jev window isn't signed in to YouTube. Sign in there once if you need them.
